Halloumi Aubergine Sliders With Harissa Relish. Creepy Songs.

It is now dark and cold when I head out for my early morning run.

Some days it can be just plain creepy running alone. Recently, it has been especially creepy because my headlamp reflects SO many eyes in the woods as I run along the road.

Nothing creepy about this different sandwich.

Layers of fried aubergine, salty cheese, and hummus topped with a spicy, sticky relish are an unexpected, yet delectable combination.

Halloumi Aubergine Sliders With Harissa Relish

Ingredients:

2½ tbsp olive oil
2 onions , very finely sliced
½ aubergine , cut into 8 round slices
250g halloumi cheese, cut into 8 slices
1 Tbs soft brown sugar
1 roasted red pepper from a jar, chopped
2 tsp harissa
4 slider rolls or ciabatta rolls, halved and lightly toasted
4 tbsp hummus

Directions:

1. Add 1 Tbs of the oil to a pan and add the onions. Cook over a high heat for a few minutes, then turn down the heat and cook until soft and golden, about 8 minutes.

2. Meanwhile, heat another Tbs of oil and fry the aubergine for a few mins on each side until tender. Set aside.

3. In the remaining oil, fry the halloumi until golden.

4. Add the brown sugar, pepper and harissa into the onions. Cook for 1 minute until the sugar has melted.

5. While the relish is cooking, spread the rolls with hummus and top with halloumi and aubergine slices. Spoon the harissa relish over and serve.

What keeps me from losing it when I see all those eyes, is that I have my favorite songs playing in my ears.

Usually nothing creepy.

But, I was thinking that there are a lot of creepy songs out there.

Some unintentional ones like that Benny Mardones song “Into The Night”.

‘She’s just 16 years old
Leave her alone they say’

And just look at this guy…how creepy can you get?

And that Willy Wonka boat trip song? Ewwww!

I’m a big Red Sox fan and there is nothing quite like being at Fenway when, at the bottom of the 8th, Sweet Caroline is played to full fan participation.

However, the song got a bit tainted for me this summer when I learned that Neil Diamond penned the tune for Caroline Kennedy who was all of about 11 when he wrote it.

‘Hands, touchin’ hands
Reachin’ out
Touchin’ me
Touchin’ you’

Really Neil? Warm touching hands???

This is a pretty creepy song, as are most of the songs by Stark Effect.
Stark Effect-I Miss You

What’s He Building In There? by Tom Waits, Toccata And Fugue in D Minor by Bach and Revolution 9 by The Beatles…more creep.

And then there is Modeselektor’s The White Flash and most tunes by Aphex Twin,

And how about this song? Yikes. I love it.
Jon Allen-Dead Man's Suit

I could go on, but I have to go attend to my day job. :)

Cheers!

Love that Tom Waits song. Makes me think about the kid that built a nuclear reactor in his basement (or whatever – I forget the specifics). That whole album is on the creepy side. The sandwiches sound tasty. Might have to give this a whirl.
