I’m always on the lookout for great chocolate chip cookie recipes. I think my favorite is this recipe, but sometimes I want a more basic chocolate chip cookie.
I’m a butter person, but I know that shortening provides added texture to some recipes. Cookies, for instance, rise higher and are lighter. That is the case here.
I clipped this recipe out of a magazine ad for Crisco’s Butter Flavored Shortening. I don’t normally use that (because I think it sounds gross), but I did here and I really enjoyed these cookies. It is a recipe worth trying.
Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients:
3/4 cup Crisco Butter Flavor Vegetable Shortening
1 1/4 cups firmly packed light brown sugar
2 tablespoons milk
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 large egg
1 3/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup coarsely chopped pecans
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375ºF.
2. Combine shortening, brown sugar, milk and vanilla in large bowl. Beat on medium speed with electric mixer until well blended. Beat in egg. Combine flour, salt and baking soda. Mix into shortening mixture until just blended. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts.
3. Drop by rounded measuring tablespoonfuls 3 inches apart onto parchment lined baking sheet.
4. Bake 8 to 10 minutes for chewy cookies, or 11 to 13 minutes for crisp cookies. Cool 2 minutes on baking sheet on a cooling rack. Remove cookies to rack to cool completely.
Makes about 3 dozen cookies

Cookies so good they are fit for a super spoon.
How about some Super Hero Music? These songs are both kind of sad, but that’s okay. I’m still in sad song mode from thinking about what to include in this post.
My father took me to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show when I was 15. Can you imagine? Since it was Rated R, I asked him to take me and he did.
He sat in the row behind me so I couldn’t see his expression when he got pelted with rice, confetti, flying toilet tissue and the like. My father was a good sport. He still is.
The Rocky Horror Show Cast-Super Heroes
I think we have all been in this situation. You are kissing the person you adore and it is obvious that things are no longer the same. They want someone else.
Superheroes-Someone Else
Cheers!
Would you be interested in me sending you a copy of the album Rocky Horror Punk Rock Show (the whole soundtrack done by punk bands. Very enjoyable.)? :)
I would LOVE that! TRHPS is one of my favorite soundtracks ever.
I had the same reaction to butter -flavored crisco but now I use it in my banana bread recipe and love the fluffiness! Love Rocky Horror…have you seen the Glee version?
We finished Season One of Glee, so I haven’t seen the Rocky Horror episode. I’m looking forward to that one when we rent the 2nd season.
That sounds kind of good, the butter flavored crisco in the banana bread. Honestly, sometimes I am such a food snob. I do, however, make myself try all things since you never know what is going to turn out to be a great recipe. Probably like these cookies and your bread!
