Tiered Rainbow Celebration Cake With Confetti Cupcakes. Make Noise For All Will Be Quiet.

Do you need a special cake to feed a crowd of about 150?

Here’s one for you.

Last year when my son graduated from elementary school, I made the celebration cake. It was a grand tiered cake surrounded by cupcakes and cookies. Have a look here.

Well, I was flattered and honored when I was asked to make the cake for this year’s 6th grade celebrators.

I decided that the rainbow layers were too good not to repeat, but I wanted to change up the design a bit.

The cake consisted of a 12 x 18 inch rectangular bottom layer topped with a 11 x 3 inch round cake.

Then, to make transportation easier (and carrying the cake lighter) I made confetti cupcakes and arranged them on a 10 inch scalloped cake plate. I did not place the separator plate onto the cake until I had arrived at the school.

The cupcakes are made from a white cake mix with about 1/2 cup of round colored non-pareils stirred through the batter before baking. I decorated the cupcakes with a swirl of buttercream icing and a festive ribbon decopic.

The cake layers are covered in buttercream icing and prepared for stacked construction with dowels. I used these plastic ones this time around. Full instruction and photographs on how to do this is in this Tiered Rainbow Cake post I mentioned above. Recipes for the Rainbow Cake and the Buttercream Icing can also be found there.

A new decorating technique I used for this cake was applying an edible image rainbow around the 11 x 3 inch cake. The packet of 3 strips was just shy of covering the whole round, so I stuck in some of the deco pics into the back to hide the small gap. You can get the Edible Image Designer Print here. They were pretty simple to use and looked very cool.

Let them eat cake.

The rainbow inside.

Every last bit was eaten.

Every good celebration needs music.

I’m liking everything that I hear from Helsinki based All Will Be Quiet.

Something about this song struck me as a song for celebrating to.

Check out All Will Be Quiet on the band’s Website, where you can also buy the music.

Cheers!
