Short And Sweet. Trifle With Stout Cake, Cream, Liqueur And Toffee.

At some point when you are making the Guinness Cupcakes or the Belhaven Cupcakes, you might wonder what to do with all of the cake scraps besides eating them on the spot.

Well, have I got a solution for you!

Trifle.

Did you ever make one of those Kahlúa Cakes with the layers of cake, cream, and toffee? This trifle is essentially the same thing. It’s fast and easy.

Sweet.

Trifle With Stout Cake, Cream, Liqueur And Toffee

Ingredients:

Stout cake scraps or one baked 8 inch cake, cubed
Your choice of whisky or liqueur (I liked the coffee flavor of Kahlúa playing off the stout), about 1/2 cup
1/2 of a prepared package of chocolate pudding (optional, but I like the creaminess against the crunch of the toffee)
1 cup cream, whipped (about 2 cups of whipped cream) or 8 oz of Cool Whip
3 Heath or Skor toffee bars, chopped

Directions:

1. Put 1/3 of cake bits into a large bowl (Glass is nice so you can see the layers. A proper trifle bowl is even nicer if you have one). Sprinkle with some liqueur, 1/3 of pudding, 1/3 of whipped cream and 1/3 of toffee. Continue layers to use up ingredients.

That’s it.

Now for the music.

This happens to be one of Elvis Costello’s favorite songs. I don’t know if he’s joking, but it is definitely one of my favorites.

Short song.
Mildred And The Mice-I Like My Mice (Dead)

Now for a sweet song.

Very, very sweet. My teeth ache from the aural love.

This song is another repeat from this post, but then we were laughing. Now we’re sweet. (If you link to that post, stay long enough to watch the Porkka Playboys’ video again. You’ll be doubled over laughing and that is also sweet.)

You can check out Mildred, Trap, Tail and Squeak (Really) on their Myspace page.

Hooded Fang’s website is the place to pick up their music.

Cheers!
