If you don’t have the ingredients for these Peanut Butter Cup Rice Krispie Treats, you want to rush out and pick them up right now.
I’d be holding out on you if I let one more day go by without sharing this recipe. Every single person who tried a square (or two or three) loved them. I think they may be my favorite Rice Krispie Treat ever.
Don’t let the longer than usual directions for Krispie treats deter you. Every step is fast and easy. I used one bowl for all of the steps, so cleanup was a breeze, too.
Peanut Butter Cup Rice Krispie Treats
Ingredients for the 1st layer Rice Krispie treat:
3 cups Rice Krispies cereal
5 oz mini marshmallows
2 Tbs butter
1/3 cup peanut butter
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Ingredients for the 2nd layer peanut butter fudge:
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1-1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar
1-1/4 cup mini peanut butter cups (one 8 oz bag)
Ingredients for the 3rd layer Rice Krispie treat:
3 cups Rice Krispies cereal
5 oz mini marshmallows
2 Tbs butter
1/3 cup peanut butter
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Ingredients for the 4th layer chocolate peanut butter ganache:
1 cup peanut butter
2 cups chocolate chips
Directions for the 1st layer Rice Krispie treat:
1. Grease the bottom and sides of a 9 x 13 inch pan.
2. Put the marshmallows, butter, peanut butter, and vanilla in a large microwave safe bowl. Melt in the microwave for about 45 seconds, and stir until smooth.
3. Stir in the 3 cups of rice cereal and spread evenly into prepared pan.
Directionsfor the 2nd layer peanut butter fudge:
1 In a microwave safe bowl, microwave the butter and peanut butter until melted and smooth.
2. Add confectioners’ sugar and vanilla and stir until smooth. Spread evenly over first layer of Rice Krispies.
3. Sprinkle mini peanut butter cups on top of the fudge and press them gently into the fudge.
4. Transfer pan to the fridge to let fudge set while preparing the next layer.
Directions for the 3rd layer Rice Krispie treat:
1. Prepare Rice Krispie mixture like the 1st layer, then spread evenly over the peanut butter cup layer. Set aside.
Directions for the 4th layer chocolate peanut butter ganache:
1. Place chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl and heat in 30 second intervals until melted and smooth, stirring in between each round. Mix in peanut butter.
2. Pour ganache over Rice Krispies and spread evenly using a spatula.
3. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until ganache is firm. Cut into bars.
