All you Rice Krispies Treat lovers….Hear ye, Hear ye! Make these Funfetti treats soon.

What makes this recipe so freakin’ good is that the butter is browned before the marshmallows are added. This gives the treats a nutty flavor. The nonpareils give them a fun look and add delicious crunch.

Funfetti Rice Krispies Treats

Ingredients:

4 ounces unsalted butter
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt or coarse sea salt
1 (10-ounce) bag marshmallows
6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
2-4 tablespoons sprinkles or nonpareils (I used 3 Tbs rainbow nonpareils)

Directions:

1. Lightly grease the inside of a 13- by 9-inch baking dish.

2. In a large, heavy pot, melt butter and salt over medium-low heat. The butter will melt, foam, then become clear golden before finally starting to turn brown. Stir frequently and do not leave the butter unattended as it goes from perfect brown to burned very quickly.

3. As soon as the butter becomes a medium brown color, add the marshmallows and turn the heat down to lowest. Stir until the marshmallows have melted into a smooth mixture. Remove from heat and, working quickly, stir in the cereal and 2 tablespoons sprinkles just until combined.

4. Immediately turn out treat mixture into prepared pan. Gently press the mixture evenly into the pan. Sprinkle remaining tablespoon of sprinkles over top.

5. Cool completely and cut into squares, diamonds or rectangles.
