Irish Oatmeal Brûlée. The Worst Song Lyrics.

Yesterday, I acknowledged that I am a music snob.

So, it looks like Irishman Dylan Moran is a bit of a music snob himself.

You know how important those lyrics are, right?

Okay, another nod to the Irish with this decadent way to start the morning. Not THIS morning for most of you as I am posting post brekkie time. But, make yourself some Irish Oatmeal Brûlée soon. It is warming, homey, delicious AND different with that crisp, sweet top. The addition of maple syrup is genius.

Irish Oatmeal Brûlée

Ingredients:

8 cups 2% milk
2 cups steel-cut oats
1 cinnamon stick (3 inches)
1 orange peel strip (3 inches)
Dash salt
3/4 cup dried cranberries
1/2 cup golden raisins
1/2 cup maple syrup
1/2 cup packed brown sugar

Directions:

1. In a large heavy saucepan, bring milk to a boil over medium heat. Add the oats, cinnamon, orange peel and salt. Reduce heat; simmer for 30 minutes or until thick and creamy, stirring occasionally.

2. Remove from the heat; discard cinnamon and orange peel. Stir in the cranberries, raisins, and syrup. Cover and let stand for 2 minutes.

3. Transfer to eight ungreased 6 ounce ramekins. Place on a baking sheet. Sprinkle with brown sugar. Broil 8 inches from the heat for 4-7 minutes or until sugar is caramelized. Serve immediately.

Dumb lyrics?

MmmBop?

“In an mmm bop they’re gone.
In an mmm bop they’re not there.
In an mmm bop they’re gone.
In an mmm bop they’re not there.
Until you lose your hair. But you don’t care.”

My Humps?

“What you gon’ do with all that junk?
All that junk inside that trunk?
I’ma get, get, get, get, you drunk,
Get you love drunk off my hump.”

The Pina Colada Song?

“Yes I like Pina Coladas
And getting caught in the rain
I’m not much into health food
I am into champagne”

MacArthur Park?

“MacArthur’s Park is melting in the dark
all the sweet green icing flowing down.
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don’t think that I can take it
’cause it took so long to bake it
and I’ll never have that recipe again
Oh, nooo!”

Muskrat Love? (That one made it into the Cheesy Song Post here.)

“Muskrat Suzie, Muskrat Sam
Do the jitterbug at a Muskrat Land
And they shimmy, Sam is so skinny”

Oh Lyrical God in heaven help us.

“My name is Michael”

Good Luck getting through this song.

And what may be the worst lyrics out there….this one. The chipmunk effect only adds to the misery.
Barnes & Barnes-Fish Heads

I realize that the Fish Head song shouldn’t count here since it was intended to be “funny”, but I thought you might like it.

Check out Clint Holmes on his Website where you can also buy the music.

You can buy Fish Heads and a whole slew of other lyrically challenged songs here.

Cheers!
